knowledge strategy

A knowledge-based strategy is different from a knowledge strategy.

--Chakravarthy et al., 2003, KM and Competitive Advantage--
Knowledge-based strategy. The resource-based view of the firm attributes the competitive advantage of a firm to the unique knowledge that it has over its competitors (Lippman and Rumelt, 1982). But there is doubt if if is knowledge per se or rather KM which is the source of a firm's competitive advantage. The authors believe it is the second.

Knowledge-based strategy is done through three KM processes: accumulation, protection and leverage of knowledge.

They mention two types of knowledge, resource conversion and market positioning. Resource conversion is the ability to create distinctive products and services by using generic, available to all, resources. Market positioning is the ability to see opportunities in its environment and avoid threats.
