Program title: Master of Science in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management Unit: School of Library and Information Science Place: US, Ohio

Comments:
It seems to be a masters in information architecture offering a KM
concentration. The 7 core courses seem to be strongly LIS oriented. The
electives offered are mostly a list of existing courses from other
units; they do not seem to have been developed for this program. Has
one the heaviest workloads: 15 semester-long courses plus thesis or project.
Structure:
- Total of 15 courses plus thesis or project: 7 required, 1 course
on research methods, and 7 electives, being 4 in the chosen
concentration and 3 in other concentrations.

Information Architecture and Knowledge Management Program
To obtain the Master of Science degree students
must take the core program and elect a concentration:
Core Program
(24 credits):
All students are required to take an 8-course, 24-credit core.
The program's core courses provide a cross-section of the information-related
disciplines.
The Master of Science is offered
in three Concentrations (24 credits):
Three program concentrations offer flexibility for students to
tailor-make a course of study to suit their interests or career
objectives. This flexibility is essential to the nature of the
program because of the transdisciplinary character of information,
the emerging and evolving roles for information professionals,
and the rapid and dynamic growth of information technologies,
products, systems, services and networks.
Students will be expected to take four (4) courses in one concentration,
plus three (3) courses from the other concentrations (at least
one from each of the other two), plus a Thesis or a Master's Project
for a total of 24 credits in the concentrations.
Multiple Degree Option
Students have the opportunity to earn two master's degrees by sharing
up to 24 credit hours between the degrees. The options available
beginning Fall 2003 are a Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication in addition to the Master of Science in IAKM or the Master of Library and Information Science in addition to the Master of Science in IAKM.
These multiple degree options help to expand the options of the
graduates in the job market by allowing them to pursue employment in
non-traditional areas, but also greatly enhances the skills those
graduates bring to the traditional work settings for the degree
programs involved.
See the Multiple Degree Option page for more information and curriculum involved.
Advising
In order to coordinate career or research interests of students
with the program, there is a strong advisory
component.
Admissions
For admissions requirements, see admissions.
Financial Aid
There are limited opportunities for Graduate Assistantships. Applications
are
included in the university application. Information regarding
federal and university assistance can be found in the financial
aid department.
